The SM58 is seriously the standard for live vocals. And with good reason. These mics have been around for years and take anything you throw at them. Beating after beating and your SM58 will keep on ticking. You can count on it. Plus, for under $100, it’s a steal.
While the grill will get dented, replacements are cheap and easy to find. That’s a huge advantage over other mics. Trust me… you’ll have to replace grills on your live mics at some point. Probably more than once.
So how does it sound? Well, every artist you can imagine has used an SM58 for live vocals at some point. They are crisp and clear, reliable, and don’t get lost in the mix. Sound engineers are notorious for being picky about mics. But give an engineer a 58, and they’ll have a smile on their face all night. Here’s my final word: if you don’t use an SM58 for live vocals, you aren’t serious about your sound.
