The sound? Well let’s just say that you’ll hear these drums on pro recordings. And being used by touring bands. Yes, the real professionals utilize this same kit – and they have no qualms about it!

Head over to your local drum shop and try em out. You’ll probably want to bring them home right away – and your wallet won’t take a big hit from this purchase. Enjoy!

Sabian B8 Series 14″ Hi-Hat Cymbals

I have to be honest – I hated the fact that my friend plays on these hi hats. The stigma of owning a “noob” cymbal set (like the B8s from Sabian) is almost too much to handle. My band was serious about our sound and these hi hats were eating away at my self-image.

So, I sound like a real jerk right? Yeah, turns out I was clueless. After listening to countless other hi hats at Guitar Center, I realized that the B8 hi hats were pretty decent. Better than decent – and they are cheap as hell! They lasted through a few years of recording and gigging, and they sounded consistently good.

If you need a cheap set of hi hats that you can count on every night, this is it! Don’t waste time with anything else, just fork out the hundred bucks and shake off the haters (like me). They get the job done, they sound fine, and you won’t whine about the price. Go get em!

Mapex 5-Piece Rock Drum Set

Let me start out by saying that I’m not a drummer. I can play a little, but it’s not my forte. I am a recording engineer with a great ear for drum tones. When my friend brought his Mapex kit into my studio, I quickly mic’d it up and got to work. What I found in this kit is consistent, quality tones that work for just about any kind of music.

The kick drum was my absolute favorite. I’ve mic’d up a lot of kick drums, but this one stood out as top notch. It was the perfect combination of punchy and thumpy. If you’ve heard a great kick drum, you know what I mean. It hits you right in the chest, but the attack is good enough to cut right through the mix – with very little equalization.

Every drum in this kit high quality. Put some decent heads on the shells, and you’ll have a real killer. Guaranteed.

Go to a music store, sit down at this set, and give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
